Climate change affects many different sectors, such as infrastructure, recreation, and agriculture. Spatial planning has a key role in balancing the spatial claims these sectors may have. This article presents guiding models for adaptation. Guiding models are an integrative approach to all processes that come together in the public space. The relevant characteristics of an area are identified and used to build a schematic model of the study area. They facilitate planners in dealing with the complexities of adaptation and gaining insight in the impacts for spatial planning.
