ECCA 2019: the 4th European Climate Change Adaptation Conference

ECCA is the most important European conference on climate adaptation for adaptation professionals and scientists. ECCA 2019 took place from the 28th to the 31st of May 2019 in Portugal. One of the goals of this fourth ECCA was to share experiences. Participants did not only share research results, but also new products and new ways to get parties involved in adaptation.

Six themes
The conference is organized along six themes:

  1. Data, methods and approaches in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
  2. Co-production of knowledge, solutions and services
  3. Communication, data-sharing and decision support
  4. Institutions, governance, citizens and social justice
  5. Global climate challenges
  6. Climate risk management and resilience

Participants could participate in interesting theme sessions, listen to prominent speakers, exchange experiences and ideas with representatives from other organizations at the different stands.

CAS during ECCA
CAS shared a stand with TEC Conseil. During ECCA we gave various presentations and chaired several sessions. For example, Kim van Nieuwaal organized a session about experiences with the National Adaptation Strategy. Kim spoke about experiences from the Netherlands, Austria and Japan. This session drew a crowd: 120 people attended it. Eva Boon gave a presentation called The Climate Services Chain: From data to policy and action. And Marit Heinen chaired a session on Novel approaches to gaming, decision-support tools and products for adaptation.

We have been inspired to get started with our international partners and to work on a climate-proof world. The next ECCA conference will be held in Slovenia in 2021. We hope to see you there!
