Urban heat indicator map for climate adaptation planning

Global urbanization and climate change will lead to an exacerbation of the Urban Heat Island effect (UHI), where urban areas are warmer than their surroundings. At the time of publication of this paper however, there was no clear indicator to provide insight on how urban planning, land use, climate change, and UHI interact. This paper introduces such an indicator. It then puts several methods to visualize the relation between future urbanization and UHI to the test in order to find out what works best for the end-user.
